The Corporation’s Training Academy, on 11th April 2024, hosted the first intellectual business exchange since the premier learning centre’s launch in September 2023. The engagement was primarily between Munich Re delegates and Kenya Re underwriters. The engagement also onboarded Kenya Re delegates from subsidiary offices in Côte d'Ivoire, Zambia and Uganda who participated, virtually.

The full-day intellectual business exchange was officially opened by the Group Managing Director (MD), Dr. Hillary Wachinga. In his remarks, the Group MD welcomed Munich Re to the Corporation and thanked them for their willingness to engage through the brilliant forum. He emphasized the significance of the intellectual business exchange as an open forum in facilitating knowledge sharing and further bolstering technical capacity that is mutually beneficial to both companies.

Both teams engaged on discussions that circled around growth strategy per line of business, renewal data observations, loss accumulation and exposure management, reserving and monitoring guidelines, emerging risks, review of facultative business, facultative attachment points, facultative facilities and many others.

Present at the engagement from Munich Re was Simon Robinson (Operational Manager, Facultative Underwriting), Sipho Mthabela (Client Management Executive), Thomas Kibet (Engineering Facultative Underwriter), Karabelo Mashigo (Casualty Underwriter), Christopher Seboka (Marine Underwriter), Nkejane Mofokeng (Marine Underwriter), Sipho Mda (Property Underwriter) and Vusi Mavunda (Engineering Underwriter). Present from Kenya Re’s side was General Manager, Reinsurance Operations – Mrs. Beth Nyaga. She was accompanied by Managers and a team of underwriters from the Reinsurance Operations Division.
